The town was originally settled in the late 1800s as part of the rail link between Foster and Leongatha.  Remnants of the old Buffalo Station can still be seen.  A playground, amenities and plentiful parking provide a welcome rest stop and it is only a short walk or ride into the village of Buffalo.
